Kuss and Abbot Victorious on Yucaipa Road Race, Stage 2 of the Redlands Bicycle Classic.
Sepp Kuss (Gateway Harley Davidson) was the surprise winner of Stage 2 at the Redlands Bicycle Classic.
Kuss, the 22 yr old mountain biker in his first full season on the road, out-kicked Lachlan Mortan (Jelly Belly – Maxxis) and Janier Acevedo (Jamis) to win the Yucaipa Road Race, which finished atop the 8.6km climb to Oak Glen.
With his 3rd place, Acevedo moves into 1st on GC, and keeping the Leader’s Jersey for Jamis, after Stage 1 winner, Ruben Campanioni was dropped on the Oak Glen climb.
In the Women’s even, Mara Abbott (Amy D Foundation) holds off a surging Kristin Armstrong (Twenty16-RideBiker) to take a repeat of her 2015 win on the same stage. Katie Donovan (Colavita – Bianchi) took 3rd.
Abbott’s win came despite a heavy crash in the last 25 km of the stage, which saw her finished with several abrasions on her shoulder and hip.
The Redlands Bicycle Classic continues tomorrow, Friday, with a Stage 3, The Greenspot Individual Time Trial (11.4 km for the Men, 8.5 for the Women).
