Liege-Bastogne-Liege U23 by Nathan Brown-Bontrager
On a cool April day, tensions were set high and the stakes were even higher as the race continued. On tap for the day was a hilly, 180k race known as the U23 Liege-Bastogne-Liege. It is a shorter version of the pro race. We went into the race as the favored team to win, with Jasper Styuven and Lawson Craddock on the squad. Everyone was keeping an eye out for them throughout the race.
A break of 7 got up the road about 50k in. Everyone kept looking at us to pull it back and it quickly went up to 4 minutes. We had to either pull, or watch the race ride up the road. We decided to put James and Tanner on the front. I have never seen two guys ride so strongly in my life. They cut the break in half in less than 20k going into the main climb, La Redoute, about 40k from the line.
