Michael Rogers wins Japan Cup Road Race
Number of km: 151.3km
Average speed of winner: 34.3km
[10.20 09:30] Team Saxo-Tinkoff got a perfect end to the season in the Japan Cup Road Race, Michael Rogers took matters into their own hands and went solo to the finish line in the pouring rain after 151.3 kg m driving.
The mountainous circular route around Utsunomiya Forest suited Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Michael Rogers absolutely perfect, and although a handful of riders chased him from behind when he was shoved off on the last lap, he was not going to pick up again.
Michael Rogers explains:
“On the penultimate climb did Rory (Sutherland) and Evgeny (Petrov) did a fantastic job by minimizing the front group to just seven or eight riders, and soon I was alone with Edmundson (Sky). In the finals, I managed to go solo and was actually able to enjoy the last mile as margin to the other continued to rise. A great way to win, thanks to the perfect set-up by teammates and a magnificent way to end the season, “said a delighted Michael Rogers.
Saxo-Tinkoff DS, Philippe Mauduit adds:
“At the beginning of the race managed a small group to create a hole, but the big teams worked together in the hunt and had run under control. Our boys ran an almost perfect race and Michael drove into position for the final, and when Michael first got a hole, he went in the time trial position and uncatchable “concluded Mauduit.
