Cylance Pro Cycling Leaves Stage Race with Two Stage Wins a Podium and Third Overall
The final day of the Santos Women’s Tour cranked up the temperature with a blistering Australian summer afternoon on a short 1.2-kilometer course. The course allows for great crowd spectating, and is always a fan favorite, even in the heat of the evening. At the beginning of the race, a few riders tried to break free of the peloton, but were brought back quickly. The peloton closed any gap before anything dangers could be established.
Cylance Pro Cycling was diligent in covering any race moves as Jasi, Rossella, and Dani followed the animated race attentively as they had been doing the whole race. As the stage neared the finish, the pace increased dramatically, and it was headed towards a fast bunch finish. As young Italian rider Rachele Barbieri shadowed sprint powerhouse, Kirsten Wild, Marta Tagliafero launched an incredible lead out to deliver Wild once again first over the line. This was Kirsten’s second win of the four-stage tour, and third time on the podium, as she secured a 2nd place in Stage 3. With solid representation during the entire race, Wild finished 3rd overall in General Classification.
“I’m happy with a second victory,” Kirsten had to say after the race. “And to be 3rd overall in the Tour Down Under took such great teamwork from Cylance Pro Cycling!”
“I am very happy with the team’s performance in Australia. It was the first race of the year, with new riders, and the team worked well together.” says Manel Lacambra, Director Sportif. “I know this team has the ability to do great things all year long. The most important part of the team is enjoying what we are doing and starting the season with success. This gives us motivation to continue to work hard to find even more victories.”
Up next for the team is the one day Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Victoria, Australia on Saturday, January 28th
