Rodriguez came up through the ranks of the U.S. National Team (1992–1994) in the same ‘class’ as a series of other professional riders, including: Bobby Julich, Chann McRae, George Hincapie, Jeff Evanshine, Kevin Livingston, and Lance Armstrong.
Other notable Palmarès include, winning Stage 9 of the 2004 Giro d’Italia, which he accomplished by beating Italian sprinter Alessandro Petacchi, winner of the 2010 Tour de France Green Jersey. Rodriguez finished a close second to Italian sprinter Mario Cipollini in both the2002 Milan-San Remo and the 2002 Gent–Wevelgem. He also led out Davitamon-Lotto team-mate Robbie McEwen to win Stage 13 of the2005 Tour de France. Rodriguez has participated in all three Grand Tours: the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, and the Vuelta a España.
