The city of Las Vegas hosts the largest annual cycling industry, “Interbike”, trade event each September. Interbike showcases upcoming products, innovations in the business and athletes in road, triathlon, mountain biking and BMX events. Interbike has outgrown its earlier incarnations when it was held in the convention halls at the Venetian. Now with the size of the event, Interbike takes over the Las Vegas Sands Center convention annex in the heart of Sin City. In 2012, Interbike takes place September 19th – 21st.
Any attendee to Interbike gets to go to the vendor showroom. This is a cornucopia of bicycle goodies and swag, making it among the most popular places for the event. Attendees get to demo new bicycles and components, meet and greet professional athletes, watch presentations on the latest trends and get “swagged-out” with loads of free goodies. The vendor section requires Interbike attendance badges to enter. Expect to see bicycle titans like Specialized, Giant, Trek, Kona, GT and Cervelo to display goods along with smaller, up-and-coming makers like Knolly, Peach and IF. The vendor display for 2012 has over 1,200 brands and 750-plus companies under the Sands Roof.
Attendees can opt into the outdoor demo area where there are mountain bike courses, tracks and stunt areas with demo bikes for use. The vendors and bike makers encourage hard-core riding with the products, as this is the time to showcase the best in the business. Attendees have access to the outdoor demo on the Monday and Tuesday prior to the official start of Interbike. The demo area is outside of the strip, allowing for full riding of the products. Like all Interbike events, attendees must present proof of entry in the form of the official Interbike pass-badge.
Presentations, Breakfast and Shows
One of the premier events of Interbike where consumers and company reps get to rub elbows is the Interbike Breakfast. Here you can load up on the day’s calories and mix-and-mingle with the business insiders over pancakes, eggs and coffee (to name just a few of the buffet samplings). The 2012 breakfast takes place on the opening day of the event, letting everyone get to know each other in a mellow and relaxed setting.
OH! we will be there!
The CrossVegas event has become one of the premier and signature events of the show. CrossVegas is the official start to the North America Cyclo-cross season and is a highly regarded cyclocross event outside of the city. This is a great way of watching the athletes compete at their best.
Throughout the event there are numerous clinics, shows and presentations on everything from bicycle maintenance to adventure bicycling in far-off and wild locales. The published event schedule is found at the Interbike website, www.interbike.com.
Discounted room and lodging rates are available to attendees that choose to stay at sponsored casinos and hotels. You must book directly through Interbike to receive the discounts. There are several rates for attendees ranging from single day passes to the vendor area only all the way up to the all access plans that include everything (including the breakfast) Interbike has to offer for the entire event. Book online and book early as this event fills to capacity each year.
No cycling fan should bypass at least one trip to Interbike. This is the place to get down and dirty with the best bicycle products around. If you can not make it this year, tune in on CYCLINGILLUSTRATED.com and see the rad things you missed.
