My Best Performance
By: Tyler Schwartz
I started off in the second row and positioned myself behind Prenzlow so I could have a strong wheel to follow through the start. Unfortunately, my plan did not work well because as the whistle blew, Prenzlow took off, and the hole he left immediately filled in and I could not squeeze through. I attempted to ride my way around the outside of the pack to get toward the front but it was no use, so I sat in and waited for a chance to make up some spots. I made up a few spots on the inside in a sweeping turn, but then lost a couple in the sand pit when I fumbled for a instant. Just moments later, Elliot Reinecke crashed just after the sand pit and took Jason Siegle down with him. On the run-up during the next lap, Ty Hathaway fell and got tangled up with John Bailey and one other rider somehow, so I ran against the tape and made a mad dash around them, which put me onto 4th wheel behind Brandon Gritters, Brent Prenzlow, and one other rider. I sat on that 4th wheel and waited for a straight away, and then jumped and made my way around the rider on front of me to where I was sitting safely in the top three. After a bit of time heckling the two men ahead of me, I found myself putting in a good effort on the front to see if I could work any magic and find myself off the front. I gave it my best shot, trying to ride the fastest and smoothest I could in hopes of shaking them, but even my best efforts were no match for their years of experience. As I finished my pull with two laps to go, I moved over to rotate and get a break when Gritters suddenly attacked hard and flew past me with Brent on his wheel, shredding through the narrow wood chip section right before the stairs. My legs were hurting pretty bad after that pull and I could not hang with Brent and Brandon any longer, so I now trailed just seconds behind them. I looked back to check my gap on the riders behind me, when I saw my teammate, Jason, riding hard to make up for the time he lost from the crash. I crossed the line in 3rd place; my best performance so far this season against the racers who were present.
