PrimeTime Cycling Team scores victory at M35+ Cherry Pie Criterium debut 2/10/2013
The 2013 Cherry Pie Criterium was the date we targeted as the debut of the PrimeTime Cycling Team. Many hours of planning, development, and work have gone into putting together the launch of this new team. With a 3-year plan to become a top professional cycling team, it includes a unique content initiative with the intent of showcasing the PrimeTime Cycling Team in mainstream media to give fans an inside look at the sport of cycling.
The first step in the development, was to create a core group of Masters. For 2013 the roster includes:
– Patrick Briggs
– Chris Carscadden
– John Cavanaugh
– David Del Rosso
– Scotti Fonseca
– Kevin Klein
– Dean LaBerge
– Chris Ott
– Chris Wire
On the way to Napa for the Cherry Pie Criterium, I was anxious to get there to give the riders their freshly printed kits in distinctive sapphire blue and neon yellow accent, courtesy of Champion System. Fortunately I arrived just in time to get Patrick, Dean, Chris Carscadden, and Scotti “kitted up” with about 5 min to the start of Patrick’s 45+ race (he decided to participate in the 45+ as a warm-up for our primary goal, the 35+ race as a team). Prior to the race, we met to discuss our plan. It was fairly straight forward when you have sprinters of the caliber of LaBerge and Briggs… With other strong teams and riders represented, we planned to watch for any serious moves and make sure we were in them. But our real focus was to try and set up Dean for the finale, as he is a multi-time winner in Napa and of course the former National Criterium Champion.
With special PrimeTime Cycling Team fans cheering on the team, Minnie and Carissa Ott, we were all business and out execute our plan. The race unfolded exactly as we anticipated, and we were present in every major move with the strong riding of Patrick, Scotti, and Dean. Patrick and Dean each took a Prime along the way. With 3 laps remaining, Chris Carscadden and I made our way to the front to help keep the tempo high. We lined it up, and with under 2 laps to go, the PrimeTime Cycling Team train was setting it up with Scotti Fonseca digging deep. With a little help from Dirk Himely, Patrick then took over, winding it up for the last 300m. A Mike’s Bikes rider jumped the lead-out to try from a long way out, but Dean’s experience and patience shown through with a perfectly timed launch up the side of the road at 200m, as he powered to victory for the PrimeTime Cycling Team’s first win and team race of 2013!
When it works out the way you draw it up, it’s really rewarding. With selfless riding and great team chemistry, we’re excited to test the limits when the full compliment of riders are present.
For 2013 our team goals are to win the State and National Championships, along with as many victories we can achieve for our sponsors. Our mission is to develop the sport of cycling and represent our sponsors through clean racing and good sportsmanship, and most important..to have fun!
