THANK YOU to the City of Dana Point and the men and women that make this world-class event possible.
THANK YOU to Team Surf City Cyclery / Sterling BMW, and all of our sponsors.
This truly was a great day for us!
The communication and anticipation started coming on strong a week before the race. This race holds a lot of prestige. On race day Team Surf City Cyclery / Sterling BMW had 9 riders show up with the goal to win. After are team meeting, during which we talked about every scenario; we were pumped and confident. We expected the racing to be fast, aggressive, and a lot of attacks. This field was stacked with a lot of decorated cyclist. Our team stayed in constant communication throughout the race; making sure that we had riders towards the front and in the break always. With 3 laps to go, we anticipated a field sprint. As riders and teams fought for position it was clear that no rider was going to let up. On the final lap coming out of turn 4, riders were fighting hard for position. With a small break of day light Team Surf City Cyclery / Sterling BMW would send a rider from about 15TH place all the way up to 4TH wheel going up the riser on the back of the course. Coming into the last turn it was “Go Time”. The momentum on the front would carry the riders right up to the fence. As we climbed to the finish, the opening we needed happened. Team Surf City Cyclery / Sterling BMW hit the line first and delivered one of the biggest wins on the biggest one day criterium in America. It is our honor to have graced the top podium step and display the jersey at our shop.
